Kate's pink and gray nursery reveal

I can't believe Kate has already been home with us for 3 weeks. And I'm just now sharing the pictures of her nursery. If you read my Welcome, Kate! post (or if you follow me on Instagram) then you know that we waited around for this baby to come for quite some time. I had so much fun getting her nursery ready, partially because it made all that
waiting a little more bearable! I love how it turned out. And now I can't wait for you to check it out as well.

A little background:

When my husband and I bought our house almost 3 years ago, it was a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom rancher with an unfinished walk-up attic. (Here's what it used to look like- yikes!)
Before picture- turning our attic into a master bedroom bathroom and nursery
I'm sorry this is such a terrible picture, but it's the only one I have, and I took it long before this blog was even a thought in my mind, so I didn't bother to take a nice ugly before picture... but you get the idea.

And here's what that same space looks like now:
After picture- turning our attic into a master bedroom bathroom and pink and grey nursery for a baby girl
Ahh, so much better!

This year we finally finished converting the entire attic into a master bedroom and bathroom. At the top of the stairs, we ended up with a little bit of extra space. An unused corner. That's where I decided to set up Kate's nursery.

Everyone wanted to know why I didn't just make the 2nd bedroom downstairs the nursery. There were a few reasons:

  1. While Kate is still waking up at night to nurse, there is NO WAY that I'm walking up and down the stairs in the middle of the night to feed her.
  2. We like having a guest bedroom.
  3. Our long-term plan is to have Kate and Emma share a room and make the 2nd downstairs bedroom a boy's room. :)
  4. I didn't think I needed an entire room for a nursery. I was convinced that I could fit all the essentials into one corner of a room- and I did!

Let me take you on a little tour:

Alright, here we go:

When you come up the stairs and turn right into the nursery, here's the first thing you'll see:
Pink and gray nursery for baby girl- huge gray and white blanket basket from Target
I love this huge basket! I use it as a spot to throw blankets without folding them first. (Awesome.) As a mom of 2 winter babies, I have TONS of blankets... and I seem to use them all!
Pink and gray nursery for a baby girl: Use a dresser instead of a changing table. I love the cute star canvas and rope basket as a diaper caddy!

Next up: the changing table. Although mine is actually a dresser. (A great way to add extra storage space in a nursery!) I don't have a closet in my corner-nursery, so I had to find a dresser big enough to hold all of Kate's clothes. This one did the trick.

And, of course, the trash can is a nursery essential. I'm using this one for now because Kate isn't big enough to fit into my stash of cloth diapers yet, and Emma is almost potty trained. I'm hoping those two events will coincide, at which point I'll move our Diaper Dekor up here from Emma's room. For now a trash can is great because newborn diapers don't smell! Woo hoo!

The little white shelf was actually meant for a bathroom, but I love it in here. My husband loves that I can pick out Kate's outfit for the day and hang it up here ahead of time so that he doesn't have to worry about dressing her in something that doesn't match. ;)
Gray white and light pink nursery for a baby girl- pink minky changing pad cover and gray canvas and rope basket with stars as a diaper caddy
If you have a baby of your own, I don't have to explain to you what a lifesaver these changing pad liners are! How can such a little baby make such a big mess?!

I'm a HUGE fan of diaper caddies. (In fact, I've written an entire post about what I keep in mine.) I have one on every floor of my house so I never have to go up or down stairs just to change a diaper.

Anything that doesn't fit in the diaper caddy goes in the top dresser drawer. (See why I love the dresser instead of the changing table?)

I used these baskets to organize the dresser drawers. So handy. On the left I keep hats, mittens, shoes, socks, and bows. All of Kate's clothes easily fit into the 4 bottom drawers.

I love the lamp in the corner for nighttime diaper changes. It's nice not to have to turn on the bright overhead lights in the middle of the night.

Next up, my storage baskets!

I love this industrial-looking metal shelf. I bought it a long time ago when I first moved into my own apartment. It held extra kitchen appliances in our closet back then. In my second apartment, it was a staple in our laundry room closet.

I never found a good spot for it in our new house until my husband moved it into the nursery area one day while he was cleaning out some storage space. I noticed that it matched the wire laundry basket I had recently purchased, and vowed to incorporate it into the nursery somehow.

All that was left was to find these adorable canvas and rope baskets (don't you just love the elephants and stars?) and fill them with precious little baby things.

Above the storage baskets, I used an old picture frame to create a space to hang some of Kate's bows.

It only took me about an hour to make, but I love how it turned out! I just put some scrapbook paper in the frame, attached a few ribbons for clip-on bows (which Kate doesn't have enough hair to wear yet, lol!) and glued on some clothespins to hold the headbands.

The last little bit of space was reserved for the crib. Kate doesn't actually use it yet. (She still sleeps in our bedroom.) But Emma has officially moved into her toddler bed, so the crib has found its home up here.

So that's it! A whole nursery-worth of storage and function in only a corner of the space. What do you think? Be sure to let me know in the comments.

And I have to give a big thank you to the star- my daughter- who slept through the entire photo shoot. Thanks, sweetie!
