Hope after a miscarriage: 17 comforting Bible verses

I would have been almost 4 months pregnant today. Instead, when we went in for our 12 week sonogram, we were told that our baby didn't make it. There was no heartbeat. I had a miscarriage.

I was absolutely heartbroken. I still am.
But I'm also very thankful for all of the support from my family, friends, and even strangers on the Internet.

I've also found a ton of comfort and encouragement in the past few weeks from verses and passages in the Bible. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my refrigerator is completely covered in a ton of verses written on colored index cards and taped to the door!

Today I decided to share those verses with you. If you've lost your baby or babies too- I'm so sorry. If your heart is hurting, I hope that these words of truth will bring you peace. I know they have for me.

Psalm 34:18

"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed."

John 16:33

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

"And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong."

Proverbs 13:12

"Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life."

Psalm 56:8

"You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book."

Job 1:21b

"The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised."

1 Peter 5:10

"And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast."

Psalm 139:13-16

"For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them."

Isaiah 55:8-11

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it."

John 11:32-35

"When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. Jesus wept."

Matthew 7:24-25

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."

Jeremiah 29:10-14

"This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

Matthew 10:29-31

“Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  “So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows."

Psalm 68:19

"Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens."

Matthew 11:28-29

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

1 Peter 5:7

"Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you."

Psalm 56:3

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in you."
